Welcome to the Friends of the CWB (FCWB) website. The Harper government has made it a mandate to dismantle the Canadian Wheat Board against their better judgment. The push to end the Canadian Wheat Board's pro-farmer monopoly without proper consultation, and against extensive research showing the CWB's multiple benefits to farmers, is beyond disturbing. We believe the current passing of Bill C-18 to be an illegal injustice. All democracies within our democracy are now at risk. Farmers did not get their vote on the issue as required by law. Under the new law the open grain market is set to open up on August 1, 2012. This will give a few multinational companies more control of our grain. It will NOT create adequate competition for the benefit of farmers.
IT'S NOT OVER - We can stop this devastating change. The loss of the single-desk wheat board, in this context, will not benefit farmers or the Canadian public. It should be up to Canadian farmers to decide the state of the CWB. We as farmers and Canadian citizens are speaking up to fight for our rights. Together, we are taking the Canadian government to court.
